YOUR BABY | YOUR MASTERPIECE
This is a huge milestone in your baby’s and your life, and sometimes your main character
can be a little unco-operative!
I have made a list of ideas to try and make it easier for you, baby and your photographer.
PLAN THE OUTFIT
Don’t wait until the day of your shoot for this – your favourite outfit may be in the wash, or stained.
If you’re buying something special make sure it fits! And if you want your cherub to wear a headband make sure they are already comfortable with headbands.
We suggest chunky knits, wool and stretchy fabrics
We suggest creams, olive greens, browns and burnt orange:
Please bring 2 – 3 cute outfits that suit your personal style – in addition to the main outfit
We do have a few outfits in the studio but not every one in every size.
If you are having a cake smash, we start with a few plain images to capture your babies personality and slowly introduce the cake – quite often, babies don’t know what to do with the cake and it can take a bit of coaxing to get them interacting with it.
SMALL SNACKS – BUT NOT FOR SNACKING
Sometimes it happens that babe is disinterested in the cake, especially if this is their first experience with cake or lots of sweetness.
Bring along a few of your child’s favourite small snacks, such as cheerios, berries, teddies etc, that can be stuck in the icing (out of view of the camera).
This may entice your little one to start sticking their hands in the cake just to get at the familiar snacks. That may be enough to get the (cake) ball rolling!
Another idea is to let your Babe try some cake and icing (cupcakes are good) a few days prior
ON THE DAY
Please don’t shout instructions at your baby, this is an overwhelming and stimulating experience for him or her. We understand you are excited and want adorable pictures. We will start gently with your little one and help them to warm up to the foreign environment
It’s often best if mums and dads don’t interact unless your photographer requests your help.
Quite often a well meaning parent disrupts the shot and has baby looking at them instead of the camera!
Leave your home with HEAPS of wipes. And a couple of towels and face cloths. Trust me this is a messy business!!
GO WITH THE FLOW
And finally, sometimes nothing goes as planned! Try to go with it anyway, you never know what amazing photos you might get!
Our most popular products for cake smash sessions are multi image collages, available in 30 x 30 inches with 9 images, 20 x 20 inches – 9 image and 16 x 20 inch with 7 images like the one pictured above.
